Better Building Energy Codes: It's Not Rocket Science
Dave Hewitt, Executive Director of the New Buildings Institute, argues for the need for more energy-efficient buildings in an opinion piece for The Matter Network.
He cites energy codes as a simple, effective means to reduce energy use, save money, and combat climate change. He also makes the case for improving the model energy codes through NBI's, AIA's, and DOE's joint proposal for the 2012 IECC, which would make the code 30% more efficient for commercial construction using technologies that are feasible for any building or design professional and based on "state of the shelf" technologies.
