Advancing Energy Efficiency Through Building Codes

Webinar for Northeast Municipal Leaders June 23, 2010 >> 10:00 AM ET

Local Government has a chance to increase energy efficiency requirements in the IECC Building Code and change the future of the way buildings are constructed. Find out how to use your vote, not lose it!

Hosted By: Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP)

Who Should Attend: Local government leaders, staff and their code enforcement department interested in learning how they can affect the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) - the "energy code" - that governs how energy (in) efficient homes and buildings are in your community.

What You'll Learn: • Overview of building codes and their importance • The critical role of local governments in shaping the IECC • Information on participating in the 2010 Final Action Hearings, Charlotte, NC

Your Vote is Crucial: Government leaders are looking for ways to finance retrofits of homes to make them more efficient in order to preserve their community’s tax base, an effort that will require an investment of billions of dollars. However, supporting a strong energy building code will ensure that new homes are built energy efficient from the start, that retrofits will capture more energy efficiency, and public building improvements will also benefit.

There is now an opportunity for an historic boost in energy efficiency of the building code at the next International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) conference this fall, October 28-November 1, 2010, in Charlotte, NC. The results from this Conference could achieve the national goal of a 30 percent improvement. Success will depend on the number of state and local government representatives attending to cast their votes in support of energy efficiency at these Final Action Hearings.

Only "Government Member Representativesi" vote at ICC Final Action Hearings. Sending your maximum allowed delegation to Charlotte this Fall may be one of the most cost effective energy efficiency investments your city will make in 2010!
